I woke up this morning and dressed in one of my cute outfits (a colorful skirt and shirt), went to breakfast, and looked outside. Ugh! It’s going to be cold and rainy today. Changed into warmer clothes after breakfast and packed my raincoat and umbrella.
The first stop on our tour was the town of Sorrento. It was about an hour and a half drive, during which, we passed the ruins of Pompeii (the closest I’ll get on this trip, but a poor picture from the bus - 1st pic left) and the volcano Vesuvius - 1st pic right, which devastated Pompeii so many years ago.
Sorrento became a retreat for wealthy romans back in the day and a popular resort ever since. I wish we could have experienced it on a sunny day, but the weather gods were not cooperating. It was wet and rainy, but we managed to still enjoy the town, and walked the streets. There are lemon trees everywhere, and Sorrento is known for lemon everything!
The tour did rope us into a wood making shop, where we could ‘use the restrooms’ or peruse the shop to ‘buy something’.

Luckily, we also had the choice to just walk around before re-joining the group for lunch, which Leslie and I took advantage of. We had a nice lunch at a local Italian restaurant, then headed back to the bus to drive to the city of Salerno, where we were getting on a boat ride along the Amalfi Coast.
We got off the ship in the town of Amalfi, and had an hour of free time to roam the streets - not a lot of time for such a quaint and beautiful little town. We managed to climb up the steps of the Cathedral of St. Andrea, have some cannoli and a cappuccino, buy an ornament for our tree, as well as walk down the main street. Leslie even bought us a small bottle of Limoncello, which we enjoyed on the boat-ride back.
That was all we had time for, though. It was time to get back on the ship. Mom, don’t worry - we got back a whole 5 minutes earlier than we needed to. The 45 minute boat ride back to Salerno was nice, the rain decided to not spill down on us during the way there, or the way back. Luckily, because we chose to be up top both ways, where there was no cover (for better picture taking, of course).

When we arrived on shore in Salerno, we got on the bus to ride back to Naples and the cruise ship. The other pic is of a fort right next to our cruise ship (there seems to be random forts everywhere in Italy).
Next up….our last stop in Italy - Rome.
