We got an extra hour of sleep again (I love those days!) and took a taxi into Athens for our Segway Tour that we booked privately.

Our new friends, Lauren and Bob wanted to join us, and it turns out that we were the only 4 on the tour, so that was great. After the 30 minute drive from the port, we got a little lesson on our Segways, and we were off!

We went by this hill next to an observatory, which had a great view of the Acropolis. I think we were lucky to do this on the Segway tour rather than a boat tour, because we were the only ones there.

We road our Segways all around the Acropolis, and through the Plaka (shopping area).

After 2 hours on the Segways, it was time to leave them (so sad...because they are so much fun). We had to taxi back to the ship to go on the excursion we booked through the ship – Acropolis and Plaka (the very same places we just came from), but we would be walking up the hill of the Acropolis, and having some free time in the Plaka.

The Acropolis is one of the top attractions in Athens, and I was excited to climb to its 2,500-year-old Parthenon Temple to Poseidon and Athena. There is a theater right next to the hill, where modern-day concerts play.

After our tour, we took the bus to the Plaka, which as I mentioned above, is full of shops, boutiques, restaurants and open-air coffee shops. We had some salted caramel gelato, and Leslie ordered a gyro for us to share. All delicious!

Tomorrow is a Sea Day. Then, 4 days in a row – Malta and Italy.
